Pituitary diseases

The Swedish Pituitary Register

Registry category: Endocrine diseases

Certification level: 2

Central personal data controller (CPUA): Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset

The pituitary tumors are usually benign but can cause severe hormone deficiencies and due to the tumor extension also cause a major visual impact.

The patients are often of working age and require lifelong follow-ups regarding the risk of recurrence as well as control of hormone deficiencies and hormone replacement.

As the pituitary tumors are relatively uncommon, it is important to collect these in a national register.

The purpose of the register is to:

  • Ensure that all the patients with pituitary tumors in the country's six healthcare regions receive equal treatment and follow-up
  • Evaluate given treatment
  • Evaluate the patient's quality of life and ability to work
