The quality of prenatal care is crucial for both the mother and child in terms of morbidity and mortality. It also has implications for future reproductive health. The effect of local care programs can be reflected in registry data. The Swedish Pregnancy Registry is a complement to the Medical Birth Registry.

The aim of the registry is to improve the quality and enable follow-up and evaluation of prenatal care. Another aim is to create a foundation for evidence-based healthcare to enable research and development in Swedish prenatal care.
