National Quality Registry for Breast Implants

Breast implants are used for two purposes: reconstruction after the breast has been removed due to cancer, and for enlargement of the breast for aesthetic reasons.

Every year, breast cancer is diagnosed in 8 000 women in Sweden, and about 2 000 women need to undergo removal of the entire breast. The absence of a breast results both in well-documented functional impairment and low health-related quality of life.
