The office in Brussels

The aim of the office in Brussels is to support SALAR's public affairs activities in issues related to the European Union.

A large part of EU decisions have a direct or indirect influence on local and regional government in Sweden. That is why SALAR plays an active part in European politics. The SALAR Brussels office was established in 1993, one year before Sweden joined the EU.

Through the Brussels office we monitor legislative and regulatory activities in the European Union and provide statements, information and recommendations to EU policy makers.

EU work and priorities

Every year, the board of SALAR decides on EU priorities for the following year. SALAR’s EU priorities are issues that are of great political or economic importance to Swedish municipalities and regions and where the issue is considered to be at a particularly important stage of influence in Brussels.

Please contact the office if you want more information about our priorities.

Study visits

One of the main responsibilities of the Brussels office is Information and Communication.

More than 140 groups from our members and other, Swedish and international, organisations visit us every year. Our main message is how much and in what way the local and regional level is influenced by the EU.
