Helena Ohlsson

Helena Ohlsson is Project Manager and Urban Specialist at SALAR International since 2007. Currently she is managing the ‘Sustainable Municipal Waste Management Project’ in North Macedonia and works as technical advisor in various projects globally to support inclusive and sustainable urban development. She holds a Master’s degree in Spatial Planning and Urban Design from Blekinge Institute of Technology and Politecnico di Milano.

Her experience in the field of urban development and planning covers over 16 years of work with focus on holistic, participatory and integrated processes. Her professional experience within international development cooperation is diverse from both head office and field office level and includes countries such as Afghanistan, China, India, North Macedonia, Guinea-Bissau, South Africa, Myanmar, Kenya and Tunisia. She has broad Swedish and International experience working for UN, grassroots organisations, NGOs, non-profit organisations, Local Governments as well as private consultant companies and span over project development and team management as well as technical development support to various levels of governments. She has managed various integrated urban development projects from detailed to strategic and regional planning as well as community-led upgrading projects in informal, post-conflict and post-disaster areas. Helena has a strong engagement for cross-disciplinary collaboration, gender-sensitive design, community based development and crises response.
