SALAR International support to decentralisation dialogue, Liberia

On Friday 10 November SALAR International hosted a study visit from Liberia and the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA).

The Liberian delegation included Minister of Interior Affairs Varney Sirleaf and National Security Adviser Jefferson Kanmoh, as well as Madeline Karlsson, FBA Project Manager for Liberia.

Discussions focused on Liberia’s decentralisation process and different aspects of the Swedish local self-governance system, including SALAR’s role. As part of the discussion, SALAR International presented its earlier work to support decentralisation dialogue in Liberia, as well as comparative reform processes undertaken as part of SALAR International projects in other countries.

The hosting of the visit by FBA, including the visit to SALAR International comes as part of a commitment to the Sweden’s Cooperation Strategy with Liberia 2021 – 2025, which includes a focus on support to decentralisation and reforms within the public sector. The meeting explored opportunities for continued exchange and cooperation between SALAR International, FBA and the Government of Liberia.
